From CNN’s katrina.impact page:

An Air Force base in Katrina’s path is 95 percent “smashed” from the hurricane’s floodwater and wind, an Air Force official at the base said Wednesday.

Keesler Air Force Base in Biloxi, in the central coast region of Mississippi, is a major Air Force training base and home to the U.S. Air Force fleet of hurricane-hunter aircraft.

How ironic is it that the hurricane-hunter air force base was right in the path of the its latest quary?
