Website updates

I am blatantly copying palmerforpresident.com‘s clean sidebar by getting rid of the cruft that has inhabited mine for the last couple of months. Gone are the Last.fm flash widget – in it’s place, a simple text-based list courtesy of the Last.fm for WordPress widget/plugin. Also gone is the FriendFeed widget/plugin that didn’t really display anything new but rather multiple instances of the same thing due to the linkages between my social presences. I also found a Google Reader widget/plugin which I like the output of better than just using the RSS feed of my shared items. And I finally fixed the formatting issue with the Last.fm widget that caused me to go to the flash-based one in the first place – the encoding for my website had been “US-ASCII” instead of the recommended “UTF-8″, so making that simple change fixed the crazy characters that were showing up between the artist and song title and hopefully some other lingering problems that I’d had with pasting text from webpages displaying crazy characters once published.

I have brought back the links and added a ‘social’ section listing my social presences across the internet (just like vanberge). 

And finally, for all you zealots, I have stopped the Twitter Tools plugin from publishing a new blog post based on every tweet. I liked it but apparently seeing the “tweet” more than once across my online presences was just too much! Plus, it occasionally for whatever reason would include @ reply tweets, which was blatantly disallowed in the plugin configuration. So whatever. My last couple of “tweets” can be found in the sidebar.

The temperature has risen to a balmy 10.6 degrees and tomorrow looks much better, though we’ll see how the morning fares. I am off this week as I said earlier, so I’ll be around.
