I try to write a Christmas wrap up each year because it’s fun to look back and see what sort of gifts were a big deal in the years past and also as a test to see if I am using any of them still, years in the future.
This year was brought to me by Amazon.com because most everything I recieved was orderd off Amazon or could at least be found there. And I’m OK with this. I have started to embrace Amazon more and more, especially since their Amazon Prime
feature which offers free 2-day shipping.
Similar to last year, my default answer to those wondering what to get me was “Amazon gift card“. And I did get a few! I also have my 28th birthday coming up in a week so maybe we’ll see a few more then too. Now that Christmas is over, I have to wait until my birthday is done with before actually using the balance of Amazon credit – never know what I might get, and I can’t think of something I wanted but didn’t get, but I’ll wait either way just in case. Although I could always buy some Kindle books
…
But in addition to gift cards, I also snagged some actual gifts:
- Red Dead Redemption
for Xbox 360
- Call of Duty: Black Ops
for Xbox 360
- Borderlands Game of the Year Edition
(which I bought myself a few days before Christmas, using a $20 Reward Zone credit, but I’ll include it here because it’s a great game)
- LG BD570 Network Blu-ray Disc Player
(Netflix, etc included)
- Groom Mate Platinum XL Nose & Ear Hair Trimmer
- New wallet
- Mini Leatherman
- Xbox 360 Live 12 Month Messenger Gold Pack
(and Project Gotham Racing, included)
I’m probably leaving a few things out, which does not mean I don’t appreciate them, but my tired, sugar/caffiene-addled brain is unable to recall them at this specific moment.
Speak of sugar, I have declared today to be a diet-free day. I’m not keeping track of whatever I eat, not putting it on my food diary at fatsecret.com, just plain not worrying about it. They say to not stress out about trying to keep track on days like today, when family get-togethers involve copious amounts of pre-dinner snacks, large dinners, and all kinds of dessert goodies. So I’m just not worrying about it. I’m OK with this because I’ve done quite well, losing about 14 pounds since November 5th.
I have this week off and am looking forward very much to catching up with my family and also my new video games!
This post brought to you by WordPress and Google Chrome notebook CR-48.
Nothing but twitter digests! Shameful.
Don’t you love it when purchasing PC parts, you get them all unboxed and start putting them together but then you realize that something you have isn’t compatible, or you forgot to order something? Yeah, sure is fun.
I’m building ash and myself a slightly more modern computer than what we have now and I thought I ordered everything I needed. It was all delivered yesterday so last night I started putting things together only to get to the power supply and realize that the main motherboard power connector from my power supply is only 20-pin, not 24-pin. Doh. So time to order a new power supply.
In the end, here is what I ordered:
- AMD Athlon 64 X2 5200 Brisbane 2.7GHz Socket AM2 65W Dual-Core Processor Model ADO5200DOBOX – Retail -Â $60.99
- ECS BLACK SERIES A780GM-A AM2+/AM2 AMD 780G HDMI ATX AMD Motherboard – Retail -Â $69.99
- Western Digital Caviar Blue WD3200AAJS 320GB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5″ Internal Hard Drive – OEM – $42.99
- CORSAIR XMS2 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Desktop Memory Model TWIN2X4096-6400C5C – Retail – $69.99
- OKGEAR 6 ft. HDMI cable ,male to male ,black Model GC6HDMI1 – OEM -Â $4.99
- LOGISYS Computer PS480D2 480W ATX12V Power Supply – Retail – $14.99
The motherboard has an HDMI output on it and Ash’s 21.5-inch LCD (Hanns·G HH-221HPB Black 21.5″ 5ms HDMI Widescreen LCD Monitor – Retail) has an HDMI input so I figure we’ll give that a shot versus VGA.
I love how affordable PC parts are these days. It’s so cheap to buy 4GB of memory for a PC when a few years ago, that would cost hundreds of dollars.
I hope to put Windows 7 on this beast and it should be pretty awesome.
Also, I think I have the flu and it sucks. Tired/achy/headache/sore throat/congested/101.2F temperatre/sudden onset of symptoms/etc. I have never felt so sick – yesterday anyway. I feel a little better today but not well enough to go in to work. I took a sick day yesterday and lazed around the house. Last night I started feeling better but that’s always how it goes – I feel so terrible during the day but after a shower in the evening, I get some of my strength back. It happens every time I get sick. So today I’m working from home. I hope to install VMware ESX 3.5 Update 4 on 3 new blades that we have at work and then upgrade them to ESX4 to see how the process goes.
Listening to Ed Dobson’s Healing Sermon #1 about Divine Healing. Ed was diagnosed with ALS (Lou Gehrig’s disease) 9 years ago, and this sermon series is how he announces and talks about it to his church.
Shortly after I was diagnosed with als (incurable, degenerative and terminal illness) I preached a series of messages on the subject od Divine Healing. For me this was not theological or theoretical – it was the reality of what I was facing. The first message introduces the topic and the rest fill in the blanks. I can remember the series as if it was yesterday even though it was almost nine years ago. I hope it will encourage a lot of people who are struggling.
THE SERMONS ARE FOR DOWNLOAD ON MY BLOG-FOR FREE

I became familiar with Ed after he started guest teaching at Mars Hill occasionally. He is a great speaker and I always look forward to his messages. He is speaking next at Mars Hill on 10/11. [Mars Hill Sunday schedule]
