Probably old news for Chelsea folks but new news to me:

Hollywood came to Chelsea on Tuesday as two-time Oscar winner Hilary Swank and a production crew shot scenes for the movie “Betty Anne Waters” on Garfield Street.

‘Betty Anne’ drops by Chelsea

Pretty cool that the hollywood legislation is actually bringing filming to Michigan and even cooler that they’re using my hometown as a backdrop for some scenes! Too neat.

Longtime Press sports columnist David Mayo, accused of growing marijuana in his Northeast Side home, was targeted for investigation after police tracked shipping invoices of a company that advertises in “High Times” magazine, court records showed.

Armed with that information, police sought utility bills, which showed Mayo’s electric use was more than twice that of his neighbors.

Police also put his home under surveillance and determined he did not bring his trash to the curb, which is common among marijuana growers, police said.

Investigators in early January also noted a “large amount of mold” under the eaves on the outside of his house, which suggested to them strong grow lights were being used inside the residence, heating the room where marijuana was being grown, and causing condensation on the exterior.

Pretty interesting couple of points on how police investigate marijuana growing operations.

President Barack Obama missed a golden opportunity to send a message to Congress about doing business as usual when the business environment is anything but usual. He should have vetoed the spending bill. The measure was packed with 8,500 special interest projects, called earmarks, totaling roughly $8 billion.

The president’s failure to prune these political plums early in his administration belies his promise to hold Congress accountable for wasting public money. Mr. Obama should not make the same mistake as President Bush, acquiescing to compatriots in the legislative branch and saving his veto pen for when the opposing party comes to power. The next time Congress sends the president a waste-filled bill, he should just say “no.”

Agreed!

Spending projects should get the same scrutiny as anything else and not be slipped in as irrelevant pork attached to legislation.

The President should have line-item veto power to prune the budget.

Very dissapointing that this has not been dealt with. Today in fact I recieved a video email from the Obama team urging me to help get the budget passed. Negative.

SHOW BIZ: JON + KATE + 8 = $$$

They’re reality TV’s cuddliest family, but increasingly noisy critics allege that Berks County’s Gosselins — and their show, Jon & Kate Plus 8 — aren’t all they appear to be

via Jon and Kate Gosselin – Philadelphia Magazine – phillymag.com.

I’ve written about this before (Fame and Fortune), that clearly Jon & Kate are getting paid, so this article is no surprise really, but it does offer some potential insight to some questions that viewers may have regarding recent changes.

Congress has authorized a delay in the shutdown of analog TV broadcasts, but that doesn’t mean local TV stations have to wait.

The drop-dead date for the much-publicized switch from analog to digital broadcasting has been moved from Feb. 17 to June 12. However, stations are allowed to turn off their analog signals before June if they notify the Federal Communications Commission.

The U.S. Commerce Department last month hit a $1.34 billion funding limit for coupons that subsidize the purchase of signal converter boxes for old TVs. About 3 million Americans are on a waiting list for coupons.

Amazing. The federal government allocated 1.34 billion dollars just so people can keep watching TV, and then they run out!

I hope all GR stations switch at the original date. People have had like 1-2 years to get ready.
